Lipid Material from Human Placenta

چکیده
The method of countercurrent fractionation has been applied to the separation of a wide variety of substances. Among animal lipids, Lovern (1952) has studied ox-brain phospholipids, Lovern & Olley (1952) fractionated haddock-muscle lipids, while the lipids of human brain have been investigated by Cole, Lathe & Ruthven (1953). The latter study has now been extended to the lipid components of human placenta. The composition of placental lipids has been estimated previously by Pratt, Kaucher, Richards, Williams & Macy (1946) using ordinary chemical procedures. This work involves the assumption that the types of lipid found in placenta do not differ widely from those of brain, for which most of the analytical methods have been perfected. In the work now reported it has been found that in using the countercurrent method, lipid fractions obtained from placenta differ from those of brain. In particular, it seems impossible to account for the nitrogen and phosphorus contents of the placenta lipids on the basis of the types of phospholipid predominating in brain.

Advantages of Placenta as a Source for Mass Production of HLA-Antisera
Human Leukocyte Antigens (HLA) of fetus are responsible for induction of HLA antibodies in mother. Exposure to the mismatched paternal HLA antigens in the fetus gives rise to a polyclonal antibody response against paternal HLA antigens. HLA antibodies are present in the maternal circulation of the placenta and are absorbed onto the placenta [1]. The major source of HLA antisera is from sera of ...
متن کاملA Lipidomic Analysis of Placenta in Preeclampsia: Evidence for Lipid Storage
In preeclampsia, maternal insulin resistance leads to defective expansion of adipocytes, enhanced adipocyte lipolysis, up-regulation of very low density lipoprotein synthesis, maternal hypertriglyceridaemia and the potential for ectopic fat storage. Our aim was to quantitate and compare the total amount and type of lipid in placenta from pregnancies complicated with preeclampsia and healthy pre...
متن کاملBiological behaviors of muscarinic receptors in mesenchymal stem cells derived from human placenta and bone marrow
Objective(s): Cells perform their functional activities by communicating with each other through endogenous substances and receptors. Post-translation, stem cells function properly in new host tissue by carrying specific cell surface receptors. We aimed to characterize muscarinic receptor subtypes in mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) together with osteogenic and adipogenic...
متن کاملHuman Mesenchymal Stem Cells Derived from Adiopose Tissue and Placenta and the Adipocytic and Osteocytic Differentiation
Introduction: Mesenchymal stem cells can be isolated from adult tissues, such as the adipose tissue, or other sources. Among all these sources, adipose tissue because of easy access, and placenta due to its immunomodulatory properties, in addition to another useful properties, were attracted more attention to themselves. Isolation and comparing these two different sources can help us for acces...
متن کاملReal-Time Tracking of BODIPY-C12 Long-Chain Fatty Acid in Human Term Placenta Reveals Unique Lipid Dynamics in Cytotrophoblast Cells.
While the human placenta must provide selected long-chain fatty acids to support the developing fetal brain, little is known about the mechanisms underlying the transport process. We tracked the movement of the fluorescently labeled long-chain fatty acid analogue, BODIPY-C12, across the cell layers of living explants of human term placenta. Although all layers took up the fatty acid, rapid este...
